apple seeds Charitable Giving
apple seeds participates in the park’s free events by donating activity tables and our songs for seeds band. These events draw thousands of families, and our sponsorship money is used to fund additional free park programs –the Kids Summer Concert Series & Art in the Park.
Some standouts include:
- In 2011, together with our apple seeds community, we raised over $100,00 through a community-wide bake sale (and additional donations). The incredibly kind people at Glad (the plastic bag company) matched our total – putting us over the $200,000 mark. With the money we raised, we directly funded two pediatric cancer trials. One of them was named one of the ten most significant scientific advancements in 2011 by Discover Magazine.
- In 2012, we raised almost $50,000 through an apple seeds community bake sale.
- In 2013, with our members and apple seeds community, we baked thousands of cookies and handed them out to pediatric cancer hospitals in the northeast on Mother’s Day.
- In 2014, we have raised $11,448.92, so far. We did this through an apple seeds bake sale, followed by a 5k run that 4 of our 6 children ran over Memorial Day

“The funding you provided directly helped not only our department but all the people in Broad Channel who depend on our services and also those in the Rockaways who we assist from time to time….This building will not only be a center of operations for the BCVFD but will also be a staging area for all NYC and NYS responding agencies, something that was sorely missed during and after Hurricane Sandy.”
In the last two years, through participating in their annual spin-a-thon, we raised over $5,000. This money has gone directly to medical research that will help find a cure for this deadly and rare disease currently affecting our friend’s young daughter.
With the help of an apple seeds free family membership raffle (dreamed up and led by our kids) we raised over $6,000 last year for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

From our friends at Moms in Training: “We just wanted to thank you again for everything you have done to support Moms In Training as a dedicated partner this season. We very much appreciate your support and immense impact you’ve made on the program’s success! Our first ever 2012 NYC Moms In Training team consisted of 30 Moms raising $45,000. This season, 240 NYC Moms raised over $360,000 and 25 additional cities launched Moms In Training, bringing our national total raised to $1 million!
In 1964, the five-year survival rate for a child with ALL, the most common type of childhood leukemia, was 3%. Today it’s a little over 90%!"
